New product enables international investors to hedge their investment in Chinese markets
Frankfurt a.M. / Germany, February 20, 2017 – CEINEX, China Europe International Exchange, is expanding its global product portfolio by introducing new derivatives products. In cooperation with Eurex, Europe’s largest derivatives exchange, CEINEX introduces the first ETF derivatives on a Chinese underlying in Europe: As of 20 February 2017, the Futures contracts are available for the db x-trackers Harvest CSI300 Index ETF during regular trading hours.
With four deliveries throughout the year (March, June, September, December) the contracts allow asset managers, institutional investors, hedge funds, banks and other market participants from the real economy as well as private investors to hedge their China related investment positions. The introduction of Options contracts on the same underlying ETF is planned in the next step.
The China Securities Index 300 (CSI300), calculated by the China Securities Index Company since 2005, covers the 300 largest companies by free-float market capitalization listed (A-Shares) on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, thereby representing a comprehensive picture of the Chinese economy. The db x-trackers Harvest CSI300 Index ETF, managed by Deutsche Bank in cooperation with Hong Kong based Harvest Global Investment, is modelled to fully replicate the CSI300 index.
Dr. CHEN Han, Co-CEO CEINEX, said: “With this new product CEINEX is advancing its market offer to become a full-fledged securities and derivatives market place for offshore RMB and China-related financial instruments. Our bonds and ETFs markets are already successfully trading since November 2015. Starting our derivatives market today is a milestone for CEINEX, we are now looking forward to introducing more innovative products in the near future.”
Michael Peters, Deputy CEO of Eurex Frankfurt AG, commented: “Launching this new product is the first step towards a broad China-related derivatives offering. Currently, we are exploring further possibilities of financial derivatives based on China related underlyings.”
